    Photos of another stylish otaku home office posted over at figure.fm - this time by Dieta from Germany. Great lighting in the room which has figures dotted all over the place but displayed with thought as not to make the place look cluttered. I want an office like this when I get a bigger place! One thing that Dieta does that I do is to try and light corners which tend to be dark to make the room feel a wee bit bigger. Having glass tables also has the same effect.     Pretty much knew it was going to snow due to the very cold weather we've been having in Tokyo. Last year we had to wait until mid February to get settling snow but this year our serving came early and it was really bucketing it down last night. Photos taken out n about last night and this morning.     Blanc Et Noir is a huge and sumptuous illustration art book by Japanese manga artist Obata Takeshi of Death Note fame. Despite the title( White and Black ), almost all of the art work found in the book are vivid, full colored illustrations. Covering Obata’s portfolio from 2001-2006, about 1/3 of the book covers Death Note illustrations, and the remaining spread between Hikari No Go, Yoshitsune-Ki and other miscellaneous work.     Like most years, 2011 was a mixed bag, especially as far as watching anime and blogging goes. Spent much more time this year fiddling with tabletop RPG stuff.     I love Native. They extend the collection experience beyond most companies. Native doesn’t stop at the figure, at least with the three in my collection (Kotone, Shoujo-S, and Trunk Girl). Each of the figures came with an almost designer-like box. I didn’t take photos of the boxes, a) because it’s a pain and b) it might just look like a colored box in a tiny jpeg.     Daikichi is a single, never married, thirty-something male who takes the responsibility of raising Rin, a five year old girl who was in the care of his grandfather who passed away. Nobody in the family wanted her, so Daikichi took responsibility. The setup of Usagi Drop sounds close to a Hallmark Hall of Fame type of thing, a family drama produced by a greeting card company.     The official character illustrations for Mikoto and Kuroko appeal to me due to a distinct art style, a little sharper, a little less soft, a bit more linear than cute girls get drawn. So yeah, I like the characters via the designs and the expressive images I’ve seen floating around. In much of the official looking art I see for this franchise, many of the images tell some kind of story, often with Kuruko as the instigator of something to funk up Mikoto. Saki Mitama! No wait, Kusi Mitama! Oh, what’s the use, I’ll be dead by the opening credits! The credits run, and now our story can truly begin. Out hero, Saizou is lying motionless in a forest. (Saizou: Ah, this is so relaxing – and it saves on the animation budget too!) Unfortunately, he is soon disturbed when a woman, Isanami, looking rather the worse for wear, falls into his arms.

    FUNimation has announced an indefinite hiatus on the continued release of Dragon Ball Z on Blu-ray. The “Level 2.1″ disc scheduled for release on March 27 will not be released.     RIP Mami... again After last week’s sorta meh episode, we get another Madoka of awesomeness! This time, we get to see how Homura came to be a mahou shoujo. Apparently in the original timeline, Mami and Madoka became partners (since Homura wasn’t there to delay Madoka becoming a Meguka, which probably led to a Madoka/Mami assist on the candy monster).     OMG. This was a great episode of Madoka Magica. Basically all of the speculation of the previous 7 episodes led up to the events of this one. If you don’t want to be spoiled, you should probably stop reading. First off, Kyubei is soooo evil! Or at the very least, very manipulative. It all makes sense now! Kyubei turns girls into witches, the girls hunt the witches and get energy but eventually lose it and become witches themselves. The witches kill humans to get energy and are killed by the magical girls. Kyubei profits!! Also, Kyubei eats his own corpse, probably to conserve energy.

    Toning it down from Kurapika’s punch heard around the world, this week’s Hunter X Hunter goes back to the mind games. It wasn’t the most exciting episode; even for first timers it may have been pretty boring. I appreciated the effort in conveying the strong friendship and trust our gang already has now, but overall I wish they hurried it up a tad. Nisemonogatari Picking up right where Bakemonogatari leaves off the show follows Koyomi Araragi as he deals with various supernatural phenomena.     In this first part of my Winter Preview are the first impressions for Poyopoyo, Familiar of Zero F, Mouretsu Pirates, and Brave 10. Poyopoyo Moe Sato finds a cat and names him Poyo because of his round shape. The episodes are short pieces about Sato’s new life with her pet.     It's hard to say anything about New York Comic Con that hasn't already been said, or that isn't a repeat from what I talked about last year’s show. The event was definitely bigger than last year and the space was far better utilized than last year with them opening up the North Hall for the autograph area.
